LAKE WALES — Debra Edwards’ beach-themed office is scattered with quotes: “I need beach therapy” and “beach life is the best life.”

“That’s where I’m heading in a few months,” the Roosevelt Academy principal said.

“Can I retire now?” reads another quote on a shelf.

She will in three months.

“Being an educator has been my identity for 40 years, though,” Edwards said. “My task will be to find a new identity.

“I’m ready to be Grammie, go to ball games and plays, but I want to remain an educator, too,” she said
